Description of Research Project:

Today’s physical human-machine interactions are achieved mostly via electrical components and mechanisms, in which the physical interface or surface is constructed of material with passive or no specific surface functionality. Prof. Hong Yee Low and her research team works on micro and nano-scale surface engineering with an emphasis on engineering surface functionality of soft/polymeric materials.  Through surface engineering of materials used to construct the physical human-material interface, enhanced responses and new form of physical human-machine interactions can be envisioned. 

Preferred Technical Background:

Material science and engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering; experimental research / hands-on experiences on fabrication and material characterizations.
